Your yarn choices
MODE at Rowan Alpaca Wool 50g · photographed in Currant 020.
MODE at Rowan Alpaca Haze 25g · photographed in Merlot 020.
Hold one strand of Alpaca Wool with one strand of Alpaca Haze throughout. The beanie uses two 50g Wool balls and one 25g Haze ball; the cowl uses four Wool balls and three Haze balls. These are total ball counts; do not multiply them for held-together knitting.
Order the full amount of each shade together; contact us for help checking dye lots.
Project sizing & yarn quantities
Choose one project at a time. Hats are sized to fit an average adult woman's head; the approximate finished circumferences below are not body-size ranges.

These are Rowan's published quantities for each project. Extra length or other alterations may require more yarn.
Needles & finishing tools
Beanie: Beanie: 4.5mm circular needles, 40cm long, and a set of 4.5mm double-pointed needles. Both packages include Prym KnitPro Natural DPNs. Four stitch markers are required. One optional 30-pack supplies more than the required four.
Cowl: Cowl: 4.5mm circular needles, 80cm long. Packages use regular 13cm tips and an 80cm-labelled cable; no DPNs are needed. The cowl materials sheet lists no additional specialised tool. A marker can be useful for keeping track of rounds; use one from your tools if needed.
The selected circular setup includes the labelled cable and compatible tips: 40cm with short 10cm tips, or 80cm with regular 13cm tips where specified. For projects with two circular needle sizes, transfer the same cable between tip pairs when changing needle size. End caps and a key are supplied with the cable.
A tapestry needle, measuring tape and scissors are useful finishing tools; these are not automatically added.
Tension & care
Both projects: 17 stitches × 44 rounds to 10cm over brioche rib using 4.5mm needles, unstretched, holding one strand of each yarn together.
Make a tension square and adjust your needle size if needed. Follow the yarn labels for care instructions.

Pattern only: one MIP70 Cassia knitting pattern leaflet. Yarn and tools are not included.
Build my project: materials for your selected project only, plus the pattern and tools you select. Untick the pattern if you already own it. Your cart records the project and yarn choice.

Before you begin
Can I make both designs?
Yes. Add the first project, then return and select the second. Include the pattern once and untick it for the second addition. Each project has its own yarn requirement; do not assume one allocation covers both.
Can I use my own tools or pattern?
Yes. Select only what you need. For circular knitting, check you have the correct needle size and finished cable length before choosing own cables.
