Practical stitches · Personal details

Make it useful. Make it yours.

Combine utility sewing with decorative borders, stitched lettering and personalised details. Pattern memory lets you save combinations, while selected patterns can be elongated without altering their stitch density.

For garments, there are 13 buttonhole styles with automatic sizing to the button. For patchwork, adjustable needle positioning and the included quilting guide help you plan consistent seam and stitching lines.

Lettering is sewn with the machine’s built-in stitches; this is not a hoop embroidery machine.

Before you choose

Is it a good first computerised sewing machine?

The direct stitch buttons, speed slider and needle threader make it approachable, with decorative stitches and lettering to explore as your skills grow. Start with the manual’s threading and basic-sewing sections and practise on fabric scraps.

Can I use it for quilting?

Yes, for piecing and suitable domestic quilting projects. Drop feed supports free-motion work with a suitable optional quilting foot. Consider the 165mm arm space when planning larger quilts; an optional extension table supports fabric but does not increase throat space.

Does it have built-in dual feed or automatic tension?

No. The HT740 uses a seven-point feed dog with adjustable foot pressure and manually adjusted thread tension. A compatible walking-foot attachment is an optional extra.

Will it replace an industrial machine for heavy work?

No. This is a domestic machine. Match the needle, thread and settings to your fabric, and test bulky intersections first. Continuous heavy upholstery or thick leather work calls for a suitable industrial machine.
