210mm workspace
Enjoy substantially more room for quilts, bags, garments and home décor than a standard domestic machine.
Create garments, quilts, bags and home décor with the space and control to take on more ambitious projects. The Janome Skyline S5 Anniversary Edition combines 170 stitches, a 210mm workspace, automatic thread cutting, adjustable foot pressure, an included even-feed foot and an extra-wide table in a refined premium sewing machine.
The Skyline S5 Anniversary Edition is designed for garment makers, quilters, bag makers and creative sewists who want more room and stronger capability than a standard computerised sewing machine.
Its 210 × 120mm work area gives quilts, garments, bags and home décor space to move, while the removable accessory compartment reveals a practical free arm for cuffs, sleeves and trouser legs.
The generous stitch library, manual tension control, seven-level foot-pressure adjustment and included even-feed foot allow the machine to adapt to lightweight fabrics, stretch materials, multiple layers and quilt sandwiches.
The original Skyline S5 introduced the Skyline range in 2014. The Anniversary Edition marks ten years of Skyline sewing with updated styling, Midnight Blue detailing and a refined slim-head profile.
Janome has also added the smoother Superior Needle Threader 2 and the updated seven-piece Superior Plus feed system.
The official New Zealand and Australian package includes the extra-wide extension table, semi-hard cover and a broad sewing and quilting accessory selection.
The regional package includes 11 sewing feet, an even-feed foot, straight-stitch needle plate, adjustable knee lifter, extra-wide extension table, foot controller and semi-hard fabric cover.
Enjoy substantially more room for quilts, bags, garments and home décor than a standard domestic machine.
Explore utility, stretch, quilting, satin, heirloom, decorative and lettering stitches up to 9mm wide.
Cut the upper and bobbin threads together and draw the upper thread neatly towards the underside.
Add upper feeding when sewing quilt sandwiches, matched patterns and difficult layered projects.
Adjust how firmly the presser foot holds fine, stretch, layered and heavier materials.
Thread the needle using a smooth one-finger mechanism positioned beside the needle area.
Change between the standard and supplied straight-stitch plates without removing screws.
Three illuminated locations reduce shadows across the needle, presser foot and workspace.
The S5AE provides considerably more room than a standard sewing machine, helping bulky projects move more freely around the needle.
Fit the included extension table to create a broad, level surface for quilts, curtains, bags and long fabric sections.
Remove the front accessory compartment to reveal the 100mm free arm for sleeves, cuffs, trouser legs and tubular construction.
The S5AE provides practical construction stitches alongside stretch, quilting, heirloom, satin, pictorial and decorative patterns.
The regional model includes a Block lettering font across four alphabets for labels, names and simple personalisation.
The S5AE can form decorative stitches up to 9mm wide, producing more prominent detail than a conventional 7mm machine.
Use wide stitches for borders, appliqué, quilt labels, hems, placemats, art quilts and creative surface embellishment.
Compatible satin stitches can be elongated up to five times without reducing their original stitch density.
The redesigned seven-piece Superior Plus feed system maintains broad contact with the underside of the fabric.
Presser-foot pressure can be adjusted across seven levels, allowing the machine to better suit fine fabrics, stretch materials, standard woven fabric and layered projects.
Reduce pressure to help prevent puckering, stretching and unwanted marking.
Combine adjusted pressure with a suitable stretch stitch and ballpoint needle.
Use the regular pressure setting for cotton, linen and everyday woven materials.
Fit the included even-feed foot when upper and lower layers require extra control.
The supplied even-feed foot adds mechanical upper feeding while the machine’s feed dogs move the project from below.
It helps reduce shifting between quilt layers, checked fabrics, stripes, slippery materials and long matched seams.
The supplied quilting guide can be fitted to help sew parallel rows of stitching.
The display shows the selected stitch, recommended presser foot, stitch width, stitch length and active machine functions.
Direct stitch keys provide immediate access to commonly used stitches, while the numeric keypad opens the complete library.
The S5AE uses a numbered manual tension dial, allowing the sewist to control upper-thread balance directly.
The standard setting is suitable for most ordinary sewing. Tension can then be adjusted for specialist threads, decorative techniques, unusual materials or specific stitch effects.
Unlike the Skyline S6AE and S7AE, the S5AE does not have automatic thread tension. This makes it well suited to sewists who prefer direct mechanical control over their upper-thread setting.
Push the threading control down until it stops and guide the thread through the mechanism.
Raise the control slowly and the threader pulls a loop through the eye of the needle.
The Easy Set Bobbin and bobbin-winding plate with cutter further simplify machine preparation.
Press the thread-cutter button and the machine cuts both the upper and bobbin threads.
The upper thread is drawn towards the underside of the project to provide a clean finish.
Cutting can also be programmed into suitable stitch sequences so the machine trims automatically after locking.
Press the release lever and the needle plate lifts away without screws or tools.
Use the standard 9mm plate for the complete stitch library or fit the included straight-stitch plate for piecing, fine fabrics and accurate straight sewing.
The machine recognises the installed plate and helps prevent incompatible wide stitches from being selected.
Place the button into the rear of the Automatic Buttonhole Foot R and the machine uses it as a size guide.
The supplied stabiliser plate helps keep the buttonhole foot level on thick, soft or uneven garment sections.
The regional package equips the S5AE for accurate piecing, layered sewing, straight-line quilting and traditional free-motion work.
Follow the built-in guide for consistent patchwork seam allowances.
Supports the fabric closely around the needle for piecing and fine straight sewing.
Guides quilt layers from above while the machine feeds from below.
Use the supplied PD-H foot for free-motion quilting, thread painting and darning.
Lower the feed dogs to control the fabric movement manually.
Raise the presser foot while keeping both hands on the quilt or fabric.
The S5AE includes a conventional mechanical even-feed foot. It does not have the AcuFeed Flex system fitted to the Skyline S6AE and S7AE.
It supports traditional free-motion quilting but does not include or support Janome’s A.S.R. Accurate Stitch Regulator.
The removable accessory compartment reveals a free arm approximately 100mm long from the needle.
Tubular garment sections can slide around the machine arm rather than being flattened across the full sewing bed.
Sew without the foot controller and hold the button for controlled slow sewing.
Choose whether the needle stops raised or securely lowered in the fabric.
Secure suitable seams and decorative patterns at the touch of a button.
Reinforce ordinary construction seams using the dedicated reverse button.
Limit maximum sewing speed for appliqué, curves and detailed work.
Disable machine operation while threading or changing needles and feet.
Return to the beginning of a decorative pattern or programmed sequence.
Add the optional remote thread-cutting switch for hands-free trimming.
Combine compatible decorative stitches, lettering and spaces to create borders, labels and personalised sewing sequences.
Mirror suitable patterns, elongate selected satin stitches and return to the beginning of a design using the startover function.
The S5AE can form temporary stitch combinations during the current sewing session, but the official regional specification does not list permanent built-in memory for saving them after the machine is switched off.
The Skyline S5 Anniversary Edition is a sewing and quilting machine. It does not perform machine embroidery.
It uses manual thread tension and a conventional detachable even-feed foot rather than automatic tension or AcuFeed Flex.
It does not have automatic pivoting, an electronic presser-foot lift, automatic foot pressure, stitch tapering, Variable Zigzag, dedicated ruler-work mode or HP Professional Grade compatibility.
It does not have upper-thread or optical bobbin-thread sensors.
The buttonhole stabiliser plate and quilting guide for the even-feed foot are also supplied.
