An ideal first sewing machine

Made for learning, mending and everyday projects

The Elna EL2000 is an approachable choice for beginners, students and occasional sewists who want reliable sewing without electronic menus or complicated controls.

Two large front dials control stitch selection and stitch length. The available stitch patterns are printed directly on the machine, making it easy to see which setting to choose.

Sewing speed is controlled using the supplied foot controller, while the mechanical reverse lever secures the beginning and end of ordinary seams.

Its compact body and fold-down handle make the EL2000 easy to move between rooms, take to a sewing class or store after use.

Useful standard accessory package

The EL2000 includes the feet required for general sewing, zip insertion, blind hemming and buttonholes.

  • Blind-hem foot
  • Zipper foot
  • Elna plastic bobbins × 3
  • Elna needle set

Why the Elna EL2000 stands out

Practical beginner features without unnecessary complexity

01

15 built-in stitches

Sew straight seams, zigzag, stretch stitches, triple stitches, blind hems and buttonholes.

02

Four-step buttonhole

Create buttonholes by progressing through four clearly marked selector stages.

03

Front-loading bobbin

Use a traditional removable bobbin case positioned behind the free-arm compartment.

04

Instant reverse lever

Reinforce ordinary seams by holding the large reverse control while sewing.

05

Free-arm sewing

Remove the accessory compartment to sew sleeves, cuffs and trouser hems.

06

Extra-high foot lift

Raise the presser foot higher when positioning thicker seams or multiple fabric layers.

07

Clip-on presser feet

Change between the supplied feet without removing a retaining screw.

08

Portable design

A fold-down handle and approximately 6kg weight make storage and transport easier.

Straightforward mechanical operation

Turn the dial and begin sewing

The EL2000 avoids complicated screens and electronic menus. Select the stitch letter using the main dial, set the stitch length and control the machine through the foot pedal.

The stitch chart is printed across the front panel, so the entire selection remains visible while the machine is being used.

This direct layout makes it easier for beginners to understand how stitch selection, length and thread tension work together.

Simple controls

  • Mechanical stitch selector
  • Mechanical stitch-length dial
  • Manual tension control
  • Large reverse lever
  • Foot-controller operation
  • Visible stitch chart
  • No computer menus
  • No touch screen
15 Built-in stitches including buttonhole

A focused selection for basic garment construction, repairs, stretch sewing, edge finishing and household projects.

A practical everyday stitch package

The essential stitches most beginners need

The EL2000 concentrates on useful construction and finishing stitches rather than filling the machine with decorative options that may never be used.

  • Centre straight stitch
  • Left-position straight stitch
  • Triple straight stitch
  • Zigzag stitch
  • Stretch stitches
  • Blind-hem stitch
  • Edge-finishing stitches
  • Four-step buttonhole
Left and centre needle positions

Position straight stitching for different tasks

The standard straight stitch and reinforced triple straight stitch can be sewn with the needle in either the centre or left position.

General seams

Use the centre position for ordinary garment and craft construction.

Zip insertion

Use the left position with the supplied zipper foot when appropriate.

Edge stitching

Change the relationship between the needle and edge of the foot.

Reinforced sewing

Use triple straight stitch where additional seam stretch and strength are required.

Traditional bobbin operation

Front-loading oscillating-hook system

The bobbin sits inside a removable metal-style bobbin case accessed from the front of the free arm.

To load the machine, remove the accessory compartment, open the hook cover and insert the wound bobbin into its case.

Front-loading systems are familiar to many experienced sewists and provide direct access to the bobbin case for threading and cleaning.

  • Removable bobbin case
  • Front access
  • Oscillating hook movement
  • Three plastic bobbins included
  • Easy access for cleaning
  • Traditional mechanical design
Separate bobbin winding

Easy push-pull declutch system

Pull the handwheel clutch outward before winding a bobbin. This disconnects the needle mechanism while allowing the bobbin winder to operate.

Push the clutch back into position before returning to ordinary sewing.

Two retractable spool pins provide a convenient place for the upper-thread spool and bobbin-winding spool.

Secure ordinary seams

Large instant-reverse lever

Press and hold the reverse lever to sew backwards with compatible utility stitches.

A few reverse stitches at the beginning and end of a seam help prevent the thread from pulling loose during use or washing.

The control is positioned on the front of the machine where it can be reached easily while guiding the fabric.

Four-step garment buttonholes

Create buttonholes using the supplied sliding foot

Mark the required length on the fabric, attach the sliding buttonhole foot and move through the four buttonhole stages shown on the selector dial.

The machine sews each side and bartack as a separate step, allowing the operator to control the finished length.

The EL2000 uses a four-step buttonhole rather than an automatic one-step buttonhole system.

Free-arm garment sewing

Reach sleeves, cuffs and trouser hems

Slide the accessory compartment away from the machine to expose the narrower free-arm sewing area.

Tubular sections can pass around the arm rather than being flattened across the full sewing bed.

Sleeve hems
Cuffs
Trouser hems
Children’s clothing
Bag openings
Narrow repairs
Extra space beneath the foot

Extra-high presser-foot lift

Lift the presser-foot lever beyond its normal raised position to create additional clearance beneath the foot.

This makes it easier to place bulky seam intersections, folded hems, quilted fabric and several layers beneath the presser foot before sewing.

Extra-high lift provides more positioning space. It does not turn the EL2000 into an industrial or dedicated heavy-duty machine.

Darning and manual fabric movement

Supplied darning plate covers the feed dogs

The feed dogs do not lower on the EL2000. Instead, the supplied darning plate clips over the needle plate and prevents the feed dogs from contacting the fabric.

With the correct optional darning foot and technique, this allows the operator to move the project manually for repairs and free-motion practice.

  • Darning plate included
  • Feed dogs remain raised beneath plate
  • Supports basic darning
  • Allows manual fabric movement
  • Optional darning foot may be required
  • Suitable for learning free-motion control
Clear measurement references

Metric and imperial needle-plate guides

The needle plate includes seam guides in millimetres and inches to help maintain a consistent distance between the needle and fabric edge.

These markings are useful for garment seam allowances, repairs, craft sewing and basic patchwork.

Four included presser feet

Useful accessories for everyday techniques

Zigzag Foot

The general-purpose foot for straight stitching, zigzag and most built-in utility stitches.

Sliding Buttonhole Foot

Provides a visible guide while sewing the four stages of the buttonhole.

Blind-Hem Foot

Guides the folded fabric edge while sewing a discreet blind hem.

Zipper Foot

Allows stitching closer to standard zip teeth, piping and raised edges.
