The seam is often the first place weather finds

Thread selected for the environment, not just the fabric

Outdoor projects face sunlight, damp conditions, movement, abrasion and cleaning. Dabond Outdoor is designed to keep sewing smoothly while adding the resistance demanded by marine, awning and heavy upholstery applications.

UV and colourfastness

Coats specifies excellent UV resistance and colourfastness against UV, chemicals and vinyl for outdoor exposure.

Bonded construction

The bond holds the twisted polyester plies together, helping resist fraying and ply separation during demanding sewing.

Weather-ready polyester

Excellent bleach, mildew and rot resistance makes the thread well suited to products used around water and outdoors.

Check the complete sewing system before ordering

Tex 105 is a heavy industrial thread

A strong thread performs properly only when the machine, needle, bobbin, tension, stitch and material are compatible. Ticket 25 / Tex 105 is substantially heavier than general-purpose domestic sewing thread.

  • Confirm that your machine is designed to feed and tension Tex 105 bonded polyester.
  • Choose the correct needle system and size for the machine, thread and material combination.
  • Check the needle eye is large enough for the thread to pass without abrasion.
  • Use a suitable bobbin thread and balance the upper and lower tensions.
  • Test stitch length, seam appearance and penetration on project offcuts first.
  • Expect many ordinary domestic machines to be unsuitable for this cone and thread size.
  • Use an appropriate cone stand and thread path for reliable feeding.
Coats Dabond Outdoor thread for heavy industrial marine and outdoor sewing
Water-resistant thread is not a waterproof seam: Dabond Outdoor resists water exposure, UV, mildew and rot, but it is not the separate Dabond AWF anti-wick product. Seam construction, needle holes, fabric, tension and sealing all affect water penetration.

Helpful answers before you choose

Coats Dabond Outdoor FAQs

How much thread do I receive?

Each selection supplies one 2000m cone of Coats Dabond Outdoor in the colour you choose.

Is this V92, Ticket 25 or Tex 105?

This product is commonly traded as V92. Coats' own technical sheet identifies the exact construction as Ticket 25 and Tex 105. Because sizing systems are not identical, use the verified Ticket and Tex values when checking machine and needle compatibility.

Can I use it in a domestic sewing machine?

Many ordinary domestic machines are not designed for Tex 105 bonded thread or a large commercial cone. Check the machine manual and needle system before ordering. A suitable heavy-duty industrial setup is normally the safer choice.

Is Dabond Outdoor waterproof?

No thread alone makes a seam waterproof. Dabond Outdoor is engineered for excellent resistance to UV, marine water, mildew and rot, but it does not have the separate Dabond AWF anti-wick finish.

Is it suitable for boat covers and awnings?

Yes, those are core applications for this thread when Ticket 25 / Tex 105 suits the fabric, seam design and sewing equipment.

Why is bonded polyester used outdoors?

Polyester offers strong UV and weather performance, while the bond holds the twisted plies together to improve sewing control and abrasion resistance.

How should I choose a colour?

Use the shade code when re-ordering. Screen swatches are only a guide, so compare a physical thread sample with the final fabric when a precise match matters.

What is included?

One 2000m cone in the selected shade. A sewing machine, needle, bobbin, fabric and other project materials are not included.
