Choosing Rit dye and colour care
Read the fibre label first: Rit All-Purpose is intended for the listed natural fibres and nylon, including cotton, linen, silk, wool and rayon. For fabric containing 35% or more polyester, acrylic or acetate, compare DyeMore. Check the exact product instructions, garment care label and any finish before choosing; existing colour and synthetic stitching can affect the result.
The methods differ: DyeMore requires its stovetop method and sustained high heat; it is not a washing-machine dye. The fabric must tolerate that process and fit the required dye bath. All-Purpose has its own methods, while ProLine is a separate professional powder range with its own material and method directions. Calculate quantity from dry fabric weight and the shade you want.
Dye, fixative and remover do different jobs: ColorStay is an after-dye fixative for its stated cotton, linen, ramie, rayon and suitable blended fabrics; it does not add dye colour. Colour Remover prepares suitable fabric or removes existing colour, while White-Wash and Whitener & Brightener have separate whitening or brightening purposes. Follow each pack rather than treating them as interchangeable additives.
Compare kit contents: Back to Black and Back to Blue Denim kits include their All-Purpose dye, ColorStay and gloves. The Tie-Dye Accessory Kit supplies application accessories; choose dye separately. Test where possible: a darker shade does not guarantee hidden bleach marks, stains or an even result.
