Floating Mode helps fabric feed without unnecessary compression
Floating Mode allows you to fine-tune the height of the presser foot so it sits slightly above the fabric while the feed dogs continue moving the project.
This is particularly useful when sewing around curves, working with speciality fabrics, crossing thick seam intersections or guiding layered quilting projects. The fabric can move more naturally while still receiving the control needed for an accurate straight stitch.

Select whether the needle stops raised or lowered. Leaving the needle down makes it easier to pivot accurately or pause without losing your position.
Responsive electronic foot control
Control the machine smoothly from the first stitch, while the speed slider limits the maximum speed available when the controller is fully depressed.
Up to 6mm stitch length
Adjust the straight stitch from fine construction work through to longer topstitching, with forward and reverse stitching available up to 6mm.

Is the Janome HD9 QC an industrial sewing machine?
The HD9 QC Professional has a heavy-duty metal body, high sewing speed and an industrial-style vertical full rotary hook. However, it is a professional household straight stitch machine rather than a table-mounted industrial compound-feed or walking-foot machine.
Does it sew zigzag or decorative stitches?
No. The HD9 QC Professional is completely dedicated to straight stitching. This focused design is one of the reasons it can deliver such fast, smooth and accurate performance.
Is the HD9 QC suitable for quilting?
Yes. It includes an extra-wide table, adjustable knee lifter, drop feed, even feed foot, 1/4-inch seam foot, ditch quilting foot and convertible free-motion quilting feet.
Can it sew denim, canvas and leather?
It is designed to work with a wide range of fabrics and supports heavier threads for visible topstitching. Suitability depends on the total thickness, density, seam construction, needle, thread and presser foot being used. Testing on a sample is recommended.
Can the automatic cutter be used with very heavy thread?
Janome advises using the manual thread cutter on the face cover when working with thread thicker than size #30. Follow the instruction manual when selecting and cutting heavier threads.
What needle system does the machine use?
The HD9 QC Professional uses the HLx5 needle system. Select the needle size to suit the fabric and thread being used.
Is the extension table included?
Yes. The Australia and New Zealand accessory package includes the extra-wide extension table as standard.
How large is the bobbin?
The side-loading jumbo metal bobbin holds approximately 40% more thread than a regular sewing machine bobbin, making it particularly useful for longer seams and quilting projects.
