One set, four needle sizes

Choose a reusable KnitPro tool set when you want several needle diameters and adjustable loop height.

  • KnitPro Earthy — wood-tone handle and embroidered black denim case.
  • KnitPro Vibrant — rainbow-hued handle and denim-blue case.
  • Both include: 2, 3, 4 and 5mm needles, three attachments, two threaders and instructions.
  • Add separately: compatible yarn or thread, foundation fabric, hoop or frame, and your design. These are tool sets, not complete project kits.

02 · Bold yarn textures

Build a fuller loop

Explore yarn-based punch needle for textured motifs and decorative panels. Choose the yarn thickness specified for your tool.

  • Clover Punch Needle 8816 — for medium to bulky yarn, with four loop-height settings.
  • DMC wooden punch needle — a Size 10 tool for thicker yarns, supplied with a wooden threading needle.
  • Foundation matters: use fabric suited to the needle and yarn. Clover specifies suitable punch-needle fabric such as monk's cloth.
  • Before you start: test that yarn feeds freely and the fabric holds the loops without tearing.

03 · Fine detail & lettering

Work with finer threads

Use a fine punch needle for smaller motifs and detailed lines, choosing thread to suit the selected tip.

  • DMC Fine Punch Needle — three tips and a threader, with adjustable loop height.
  • DMC tip guide: 2.2mm for size 3 pearl cotton, 1.6mm for size 5, and 1.3mm for size 8.
  • Prym Punch Needle — 1.3, 1.6 and 2.2mm interchangeable tips, threader, needle protectors and instructions.
  • Choose as a combination: thread, needle and foundation fabric must work together. Fine-thread tools and bulky-yarn tools need different materials.

Your first-project checklist

A small practice piece lets you check the setup before committing to a full design. Gather these alongside your chosen tool.

1. A firm hoop or frame

The Clover 18cm punch needle hoop holds the working fabric taut and has support legs for clearance beneath it. Check that your design fits the working area.

2. Matched foundation fabric

Follow your tool's fabric guidance. We also carry DMC Eco Vita hemp fabric; check its suitability for your specific needle and thread before ordering. It is not a universal substitute for monk's cloth or every punch needle foundation.

3. Thread or yarn that feeds freely

Choose the thickness your tool accepts and the colours your design needs. Keep the supply loose while punching. Ask us to help compare materials if you're unsure about a combination.

4. A design & finishing plan

Have your design, scissors and any transfer or backing materials ready. A wall display and a cushion panel may need different finishing. Check the contents of each product before adding extras.

What is punch needle embroidery?

A hollow needle carries yarn or thread through stretched fabric to form loops. It can create a raised surface on one side and flatter stitches on the other. The needle, material and foundation fabric determine the texture, so begin with a small sample.

Do I need a kit or a tool set?

A reusable tool set gives you equipment for multiple projects. The KnitPro sets here do not include yarn, fabric, a frame or a project pattern. Project-kit contents vary: when our upcoming DMC kits are listed, check each design's contents and any separately required tools.

Why are my punch needle loops pulling out?

Check that the fabric is firmly stretched, the thread or yarn can feed freely, and you are not lifting the tip too high between punches. A mismatch between needle, yarn and fabric can also prevent loops from holding. Follow your tool's instructions and test changes on a practice piece.

Can I use any yarn or ordinary sewing fabric?

No single combination suits every tool. A fine tip may need pearl cotton or other fine thread, while Clover 8816 is intended for medium to bulky yarn. The foundation must admit the needle and grip the loops. Ask us about your exact tool and materials before making a substitution.
