Find a specific oil
Which sewing machine oil should I choose?
Use the oil designation and lubrication instructions for your exact model. A bottle labelled “sewing machine oil” is not automatically suitable for every domestic machine, industrial plainsewer, walking-foot machine or embroidery machine.
SINGER sewing machine oil
Choose the 100ml bottle for a small maintenance supply or the 1-litre bottle for a higher-use workshop. Use it only where your machine or equipment instructions allow this lubricant; the brand name alone does not confirm suitability.
JUKI Oil 7 & Defrix No. 2
These are separate oil specifications. JUKI describes Oil 7 as equivalent to ISO VG7 for the DDL-7000A series. Do not assume that a different JUKI machine—or every walking-foot model—uses the same oil. Match the full model and manual before choosing.
Embroidery oil & ISO VG 68
Our embroidery oil listing specifies ISO 32. Our clear mineral sewing machine oil is ISO VG 68, available in 1L and 5L. These are different viscosity grades, not interchangeable bottle sizes. Select ISO VG 68 only for equipment whose lubrication requirements match it.
HD46 specialist oil
The HD46 listing is a 500ml synthetic oil for specified carpet-overlocking and bag-closing applications. Check the individual machine's requirements rather than choosing solely because it is a bag closer or carpet overlocker.
Manufacturer reference: JUKI DDL-7000A oil specification. Product labels and your exact model's manual take priority over general maintenance advice.
Cleaning, oiling & choosing an applicator
Remove lint before approved oiling
Switch off and unplug the machine. Follow its manual to access the bobbin area, feed dogs or other user-serviceable points, then gently remove loose lint with a suitable cleaning brush. Maintenance kits bring useful cleaning tools together; check each listing for its contents.
Choose controlled application
A small oiler, retractable-tip applicator or Madeira oiling pen helps place lubricant at a specific point. Check whether oil is included and use only the correct lubricant when refilling. An applicator does not change which oil your machine requires.
Use specialist products for their stated job
A thread-lubricating box applies an approved thread lubricant; it is not a machine-oil reservoir. An oil-pump filter is a model-specific replacement part. Odif LB5 is a precision lubricant spray, not a cleaning spray: follow the can's safety directions and use only where your machine permits it.
Protect the machine and your next project
Apply only the amount specified, wipe away accessible excess, reassemble correctly and test on scrap fabric. Do not substitute oil for grease or spray lubricant into electrical components. If your manual gives no user-oiling procedure, ask before applying anything.
