Merino Yarn NZ
MERINO · PURE WOOL & CAREFULLY CHOSEN BLENDS
Softness starts with the right fibre.
Shop merino yarn in New Zealand for baby knits, garments, socks and warm accessories. Choose 100% merino or a clearly identified blend, then compare yarn weight, metreage and care across Broadway, Malabrigo, Crucci, Sirdar and more.
Pure merino or a blend? A practical buying guide
Pure merino versus merino blends
The pure-merino filter contains yarns whose fibre content is 100% merino. The blends filter includes merino combined with fibres such as nylon, alpaca, possum, silk or cotton. A blend is not automatically a lesser choice: its extra fibres change durability, drape, texture or warmth. Check the percentages on the product page.
Choose for the job
For socks, consider merino/nylon ranges such as Malabrigo Ultimate Sock, Broadway Hand-Dyed Sock and Crucci Sock. For a soft halo, explore Crucci Aella, Alpachino Merino or Countrywide Purrino. Smooth pure-merino ranges suit defined cables, ribbing and everyday garments when their gauge matches the pattern.
Baby yarn names can be misleading
A baby range is not necessarily pure wool, and a number in a product name is not always the New Zealand ply weight. DMC 100% Baby 4 is a merino/polyamide blend; DMC Baby Aquarelle is a different, pure-merino 4 ply range. Use the actual fibre and gauge details when comparing them.
Superwash and project planning
Superwash is a treatment, not a different fibre or a guarantee of tumble-dryer suitability. Follow the label, wash your swatch as you intend to wash the finished piece, and measure it before calculating size. Find baby yarn, sock yarn and patterns for more focused project choices.
