Fit guide — Janome & PFAFF
Start with the model number
Match the product's compatibility list or part number to your machine manual. Low-shank, high-shank and snap-on describe different aspects of how a foot attaches; a snap-on foot also needs the correct holder.
Check width and special systems
Janome 5mm, 7mm and 9mm ranges are not one universal fitting. AcuFeed, Brother dual-feed and Bernina old- or new-style attachments have their own requirements. A multi-brand foot still needs a model-by-model fit check.

Use your exact model to find its PFAFF group, then compare that code with the individual foot's compatibility details. These codes apply to PFAFF machines only.
Important: J1–J3 and K2–K5 are subgroups. A broad J or K label is not a guarantee that every foot fits every subgroup. Check exclusions, the part number and IDT requirements. Follow the foot instructions before engaging IDT; the free-motion feet listed here require it to be disengaged.

Which presser foot do I need?
Zips, dressmaking and repairs
A standard zipper foot lets you sew beside zip teeth; an invisible zipper foot guides concealed-zip coils. Use a blind-hem foot for discreet hems, a rolled-hem foot for narrow folded edges, or a binding foot to guide bias tape.
Quilting and layers
A quarter-inch foot helps guide patchwork seams. Walking feet help feed layers evenly, while free-motion feet let you move the fabric for quilting and darning. Ruler work needs a suitable ruler foot, compatible quilting rulers and the correct machine setup.
Creative finishes
Open-toe feet improve visibility for appliqué. Satin-stitch and cording feet suit decorative work; gathering feet and rufflers create different gathered effects. Non-stick and roller feet can help with fabric surfaces that drag under a standard metal foot.
