Move the layers together
The textured underside is designed to grip thick quilt layers with less squeezing and bunching.
The Gypsy Quilter Fabulous Fabric Glide set gives you two lightweight, open-sided fabric guides for free-motion quilting on a domestic sewing machine. Their textured undersides grip the quilt layers while the open centres leave your stitching area visible and accessible.
2 fabric guides included
Free-motion quilting asks you to guide several fabric layers in every direction while maintaining a steady rhythm. These semi-hoops sit on top of the quilt sandwich so the textured base can help the layers travel together as your hands guide the frame.
The textured underside is designed to grip thick quilt layers with less squeezing and bunching.
The open centre gives you a clear view of the area around the needle while you form your free-motion design.
The squared openings provide useful quilting space before you stop and move the guide to the next area.
Inside quiltable space. A handy choice when working in a more compact throat area or focusing on a smaller section of the design.
Inside quiltable space. Gives you a broader visible work area when the quilt and machine space allow it.
Set up your machine for free-motion quilting according to its manual, place the selected glide over the quilting area and move the guide and quilt sandwich together.
Place your thumb inside the open area and your index finger along the top of the guide. Let the textured underside do the gripping while your hands steer the work.
Install the correct free-motion foot, prepare the feed system as directed by the machine manufacturer and support the quilt's weight.
Select the size that fits your work area, then rest it on top of the quilt sandwich around the section to be stitched.
Guide the frame and quilt sandwich as one while stitching inside the open centre. Avoid pressing harder than needed.
Stop the machine before moving the glide to the next area, then check the quilt remains smooth before continuing.
Two open semi-hoops grip the quilt from above and give your hands a defined, relaxed steering position.
Grippy fingertips move with your hands and suit close control, but some quilters prefer to keep their fingers uncovered.
No extra tool is required, although smooth skin against fabric may demand more pressure and repeated bunching of the layers.

No. Both the smaller and larger guides are supplied together in the TGQ005 set.
Each guide has an open side rather than forming a fully enclosed frame. It rests on top of the quilt sandwich and can be lifted and repositioned as you work.
No. It does not clamp the fabric or tension it like an embroidery hoop. The textured underside rests on the quilt layers and helps you guide them together.
It provides a glove-free fabric-control option, so many quilters may use it instead of gloves. The best method remains a matter of comfort and personal preference.
The smaller guide is helpful where space is limited, but machine throat space and project bulk vary. Check the available area around your machine head before choosing which guide to use.
Yes. Support the quilt at table height wherever possible so its weight does not drag against the needle area or restrict smooth movement.
Yes, provided the sewing machine is correctly prepared for free-motion quilting. Begin with a practice quilt sandwich and build a steady balance between machine speed and hand movement.
Use the Fabulous Fabric Glide set to keep your quilting area visible, encourage the layers to move together and guide free-motion stitching with a lighter touch.
