Your yarn choices
- Yarn A · Merino Soft: MODE at Rowan Merino Soft 50g; shown in Clay 011.
- Yarn B · Alpaca Haze: MODE at Rowan Alpaca Haze 25g; shown in Silk 013.
Hold one strand of Merino Soft and one strand of Alpaca Haze together. These are two different yarns with different ball weights and quantities; neither replaces the other.
Choose a shade for each role. Order the full amount of each shade together; contact us for help checking dye lots.
Find your fit & yarn quantities
Choose by your body chest measurement, then compare the finished garment chest measurement to judge the fit. Winterton has an exceptionally generous cape shape; the large finished measurements are the measurements given in Rowan’s materials sheet.
| To fit chest | Finished chest | Yarn A · Merino Soft 50g balls |
Yarn B · Alpaca Haze 25g balls |
|---|---|---|---|
| 71–97cm | 261.5cm | 17 | 6 |
| 102–127cm | 299.5cm | 21 | 8 |
| 132–157cm | 327cm | 24 | 9 |
The builder uses these Rowan ball quantities without multiplying them for strands held together. Extra length or other alterations may need more yarn.
Needles & finishing tools
One pair of 6mm circular needles at least 100cm long. Each package uses regular 13cm tips and a compatible cable making a 100cm circular needle.
The pattern requires stitch holders. Add the tools you do not already own.
The cable length is the finished circular length including regular 13cm tips. The compatible 100cm cable, end caps and key are included unless you already own them.
A tapestry needle, measuring tape and scissors are useful finishing tools; these are not automatically added.
Tension & care
14 stitches × 22 rows to 10cm over K1, P1 rib using 6mm needles, with one strand of each yarn held together, after blocking.
Make a tension square and adjust your needle size if needed. Follow the yarn labels for care instructions.

Before you cast on
Can I use my own tools or pattern?
Yes. Select only the tools you need and untick the pattern if you already own it. If a cable option is shown, choose the ownership option only if you have the compatible length listed.
What happens if I choose a shade more than once?
Matching variants from the same yarn are combined into one cart line, with the quantities for each role retained. Repeating shades in colourwork changes the contrast. Different yarn types remain separate even when their shade names match.
