Symfonie, reimagined

What makes Symfonie 2 different?

Symfonie 2 retains the warm laminated birchwood feel and controlled stitch movement that made the original Symfonie popular, while introducing seven new colours, precision laser size markings and an upgraded circular system.

Seven-colour chevron

Green, yellow, orange, red, pink, purple and blue layers create the distinctive rainbow pattern.

Precision size marking

Laser markings remain clear and make it easier to return the correct pair to its case.

Polished birchwood

Layered wood offers warmth, light weight and smooth movement with controlled yarn handling.

Smooth circular joins

Silver connectors create a refined transition between the short wooden tip and swivel cable.

Four cables, two different constructions

Ultra Flex and regular swivel cables side by side

All four purple cables use nylon-coated stainless steel, silver connectors and 360 degree swivel action. Two are the newer Ultra Flex construction, designed to be extra thin, flexible and resistant to holding a stored coil. Two use KnitPro's regular swivel construction.

Having both versions lets you choose the cable feel that best suits the project while keeping a 40cm and a 50cm setup available in each style.

Included finished circular lengths

Ultra Flex 40cm1 cable, finished tip to tip
Ultra Flex 50cm1 cable, finished tip to tip
Regular 40cm1 swivel cable, finished tip to tip
Regular 50cm1 swivel cable, finished tip to tip
Nine useful needle sizes

From 3.00mm to 8.00mm in one coordinated set

Metric diameter is the reliable size reference. Approximate US conversions are included for convenience. Choose the diameter that produces the gauge required by your pattern.

Metric size Approx. US size Tip length Quantity
3.00mm US 2.5 10cm / 4in 1 pair
3.50mm US 4 10cm / 4in 1 pair
4.00mm US 6 10cm / 4in 1 pair
4.50mm US 7 10cm / 4in 1 pair
5.00mm US 8 10cm / 4in 1 pair
5.50mm US 9 10cm / 4in 1 pair
6.00mm US 10 10cm / 4in 1 pair
7.00mm US 10.75 10cm / 4in 1 pair
8.00mm US 11 10cm / 4in 1 pair
Gauge decides the right diameter: begin with the metric size stated by your pattern, make a useful swatch and adjust if your measured gauge differs. Yarn-weight labels alone do not determine one universal needle size.
What does Special mean?

Shorter tips create shorter complete circular needles

KnitPro uses Special for its 10cm interchangeable tips. The shorter rigid sections allow two tips and a compact cable to form a 40cm circular, which standard 13cm tips cannot do comfortably.

This set

Special 10cm tips

Compact grip and the geometry needed for 40cm and 50cm finished circulars. Particularly useful for hats, cowls, necklines and suitable sleeves.

Normal 13cm tips

Longer grip area for medium and large circulars, flat knitting and wider projects. Usually paired with finished lengths of 60cm and longer.

Mini 5cm tips

A highly specialised extra-short format for very compact circular systems. It offers less hand room and is not the same as this 10cm Special set.

Hand size matters: 10cm tips provide less gripping space than 13cm tips. They are excellent when compact circular length is the priority, but knitters with larger hands may prefer longer tips for projects that do not require a 40cm circle.
Compact circular projects

Where 40cm and 50cm circulars are most useful

Hats

Work many hat bodies on a 40cm circle, then change method when crown decreases become too small.

Cowls

Knit suitable close-fitting cowls and neck warmers without excess cable bunching.

Necklines

Pick up and work many sweater neckbands with a compact circular setup.

Sleeves

Use the length where the sleeve circumference fits, changing to another method for narrow cuffs if needed.

Baby garments

Create suitable bodies, yokes and small garment sections in the round.

Important sock guidance: a 40cm circular is generally too long for an ordinary sock circumference. For socks, use DPNs, a very small fixed or mini circular, or magic loop with a suitably long cable. The smallest size in this set is 3.00mm, which may also be larger than many fine sock patterns require.
Is this the right set for you?

A premium wood system for knitters who use compact rounds

A particularly good choice if you...

  • Regularly knit hats, cowls, necklines or suitable sleeves
  • Want to build both 40cm and 50cm circulars
  • Prefer the warm feel and controlled glide of polished wood
  • Want 9 sizes in one coordinated case
  • Like shorter tips for compact hand movements
  • Want to compare Ultra Flex and regular swivel cables

Consider another set if you...

  • Mainly knit broad shawls, blankets or sweater bodies
  • Prefer the longer grip area of 13cm tips
  • Need fine diameters below 3.00mm
  • Want an ordinary circular mainly for fine socks
  • Prefer the fast glide and rigidity of metal
  • Need cables longer than 50cm included in the case
Secure assembly in four steps

Connect the compact tips, tighten and start knitting

Choose the setup

Select the metric tip size and either the 40cm or 50cm finished length required by your pattern.

Screw in both tips

Thread one 10cm tip onto each silver cable connector until both connections are finger tight.

Use the cable key

Insert the supplied key into the cable hole for leverage and firmly secure each connection.

Check the circumference

Confirm the live stitches can travel around the assembled needle without stretching before joining the round.

Using the end caps: remove the tips and fit end caps when you want to keep live stitches safely on a cable while using the tip pair elsewhere.
Simple care for birchwood tips and swivel cables

Protect the finish, points and connections

Keep clean and dry

Wipe wooden tips with a soft dry cloth and avoid soaking or harsh household cleaners.

Protect the points

Return matching pairs to the printed case instead of leaving them loose beneath heavier tools.

Start joins straight

Never force a threaded connection. Align it carefully, tighten with the key and stop if resistance feels uneven.

Store small parts

Keep the 8 end caps and 4 cable keys in a secure case pocket so the set remains complete.

Questions before choosing this set?

KnitPro Symfonie 2 Special 10cm set FAQs

How many needle sizes are included?

The set includes 9 matching pairs in 3.00, 3.50, 4.00, 4.50, 5.00, 5.50, 6.00, 7.00 and 8.00mm.

How long are the needle tips?

Each interchangeable tip measures 10cm / 4in from its point to the metal cable connector.

What does Special mean?

KnitPro uses Special for its shorter 10cm tips. Their compact length allows the assembled needle to form a 40cm or 50cm circular.

What is the official article number?

The official KnitPro article number for this complete set is 55510.

What are the tips made from?

They are made from laminated birchwood in the seven-colour Symfonie 2 chevron pattern.

How is Symfonie 2 different from original Symfonie?

It retains the warm laminated birchwood feel while introducing seven new colours, laser size markings and an upgraded swivel cable system with refined joins.

Which cable lengths are included?

You receive one 40cm and one 50cm Ultra Flex cable, plus one 40cm and one 50cm regular swivel cable.

Are those the bare cable measurements?

No. Each measurement is the approximate complete tip-to-tip circular length after a pair of 10cm tips is attached.

What is the difference between Ultra Flex and regular cables?

Ultra Flex cables are designed to be thinner, more flexible and less inclined to retain a stored coil. The regular cables provide KnitPro's standard swivel-cable feel.

Do all four cables swivel?

Yes. All four cables use 360 degree swivel action, helping reduce transferred twist as you knit.

Are these good for hats?

Yes. A 40cm circular suits many hat bodies. As crown decreases reduce the circumference, you may need DPNs, magic loop or another small-round method.

Can I use this set for socks?

A 40cm circular is generally too long for ordinary sock rounds, and the smallest included diameter is 3.00mm. Use DPNs, a mini circular or magic loop with a suitably long cable if your sock pattern calls for it.

Can I knit flat with these tips?

Yes. Circular needles can work flat rows, although the included 40cm and 50cm lengths have less holding capacity than longer cables.

Would 13cm tips be more comfortable?

They may be if you prefer a longer hand grip and do not need a 40cm circular. The 10cm Special tips are chosen mainly when compact finished length matters.

Do I need to use the cable key?

Yes. Finger tightening alone may allow a connection to loosen. The key provides the leverage needed to secure each tip properly.

What are the end caps for?

They fit onto a cable after the tips are removed, helping keep live stitches safely on the cable while the tips are used elsewhere.

Are cable connectors included?

No cable connectors are listed in the verified contents of set 55510. The supplied accessories are 8 end caps and 4 cable keys.

How should I choose a needle size?

Start with the metric size specified by your pattern, make a useful swatch and adjust the diameter if needed to achieve the required gauge.

How should I care for the set?

Keep the wooden tips clean and dry, protect the points in the case, start threaded joins straight and store the cables without sharp folds or heavy pressure.
