This is Madeira article 8040: Rayon No. 40, 18 × 200m. Rayon is 100% viscose machine embroidery thread. It is not polyester Polyneon, ordinary construction thread or an 18-spool 1000m Smartbox.

Classic viscose embroidery thread

Choose Rayon when lustre and softness shape the design

Madeira Rayon is manufactured from high-grade viscose filament. Its characteristic brilliance gives embroidery a smooth, luxurious appearance, while the soft hand makes it particularly attractive for garments and designs with high stitch counts.

Silk-like shine

Rayon reflects light with a rich, natural-looking lustre that gives motifs and lettering a polished finish.

Soft finished embroidery

The flexible viscose thread helps dense designs retain a softer hand instead of feeling overly rigid.

Useful standard weight

No. 40 is the versatile everyday embroidery weight for many computerised designs and ornamental techniques.

From delicate fabric to decorative detail

Use the set where a refined embroidered finish matters

Fashion and occasionwear

Create luminous motifs, monograms and accents for blouses, dresses, eveningwear and bridal projects.

Baby and next-to-skin items

The soft hand is useful for carefully stabilised garments and keepsakes where stiff embroidery is undesirable.

Decorative machine quilting

Add colourful quilting lines, outlines and visible details when the thread’s silky surface is part of the design.

Motifs across varied fabrics

Madeira positions Rayon for embroidery ranging from fine silk through to heavier denim and leather, with the correct needle and stabiliser.

Choose the right fibre for the finished use

Rayon prioritises softness and luxurious shine

This set: Rayon No. 40

100% viscose filament with a silk-like lustre and soft hand. Choose it for elegant motifs, fashion embroidery, decorative quilting and fine presentation pieces.

Different fibre: Polyneon 40

Polyester Polyneon prioritises abrasion resistance, chlorine resistance and demanding laundering. It is often the more practical choice for workwear, sportswear and frequently washed textiles.

Rayon is decorative embroidery thread. Use it as the visible top thread with compatible bobbin thread; do not substitute it for ordinary construction thread in structural seams.
A dependable starting setup

Support the sheen with the right needle and stabiliser

Plan by colour number

Match the design’s colour stops to the included Madeira codes before threading the machine.

Fit the recommended needle

Madeira recommends its Universal embroidery needle NM 75/11, article 9450, for Rayon No. 40.

Match bobbin and stabiliser

Use compatible embroidery bobbin thread and stabilise for the fabric, design density and finished use.

Test before embroidering

Stitch the complete design on a stabilised offcut, then refine tension, needle or stabiliser if needed.

Protect the thread and the finished work

Keep the lustre looking its best

Store in the clear box

Return spools after use to protect them from dust, tangles, damp, high heat and prolonged sunlight.

Secure loose ends

Use each Snapspool’s locking base so thread remains tidy and ready for the next colour change.

Follow the full project care limit

Use the lowest care limit among the fabric, Rayon thread, stabiliser, bobbin thread and any embellishments.
