300 × 200mm embroidery field
Create substantial motifs, quilt blocks, appliqué and long lettering layouts in one hooping.
Sew garments, quilt with room to move and create large personalised embroidery with one exceptional machine. The Brother Innov-is Essence VM5200 combines a 300 × 200mm embroidery field, 285mm sewing workspace, 715 sewing stitches, 318 embroidery designs, precision laser guidance and advanced fabric-control technology.
The VM5200 is built for creators who want one premium machine capable of handling everyday construction, ambitious quilts and large machine embroidery.
Remove the embroidery unit and use the expansive flatbed for garments, tailoring, appliqué, patchwork, free-motion quilting, bags and home décor.
Attach the embroidery carriage and create designs measuring up to 300 × 200mm using the built-in library, embroidery lettering or compatible files imported through USB.
Premium features including the Sew Straight Laser Vision Guide, V-Sonic Sensor Pen, Droplight positioning marker, Automatic Height Adjuster and pivot function improve control across all three creative disciplines.
The VM5200 arrives with equipment for sewing, quilting, embroidery, free-motion work, straight-stitch piecing and bobbin-work techniques.
Create substantial motifs, quilt blocks, appliqué and long lettering layouts in one hooping.
Nearly 11.25 inches of room to the right of the needle accommodates quilts and bulky projects.
Project a visible reference line onto the fabric for piecing, top stitching and alignment.
Set sewing or embroidery positioning directly by touching supported points on the fabric.
Maintain consistent presser-foot pressure as fabric thickness changes.
Keep the needle lowered while the presser foot lifts for accurate turns and appliqué.
Select, edit and preview sewing stitches and embroidery designs through a large display.
Complete both sewing and embroidery efficiently with electronic speed control.
The maximum embroidery field measures approximately 12 × 8 inches, providing significantly more creative space than entry-level and mid-sized embroidery machines.
Larger designs can be completed in one hooping without splitting or repositioning the embroidery file when the layout fits inside the available field.
Use the 300 × 200mm frame for the largest embroidery layouts and the 180 × 130mm frame for medium-sized designs.
Choosing a frame that closely matches the design reduces excess fabric inside the hoop and can make project positioning easier.
The large machine opening provides approximately 285mm of horizontal space and 127mm of height within the sewing area.
This reduces the amount of rolling, folding and bunching required when handling quilt sandwiches, bags and bulky garment sections.
The flat machine bed also provides clear measurements along the front edge for quick project reference.
Generous room for quilts, home décor, bag making and larger garment sections.
Begin embroidering immediately with a broad collection of decorative, floral, traditional, modern, lace, quilting and dimensional designs.
Built-in designs can be combined with embroidery lettering and frame patterns directly on the machine.
Additional compatible embroidery designs can be loaded through USB media or a direct computer connection.
Create names, monograms, dates, numbers and messages in a variety of embroidery lettering styles.
The font library includes alphabet and Cyrillic options, with multi-line formatting and on-screen layout controls.
Lettering can be resized, spaced, curved and combined with decorative embroidery or frame patterns.
Personalise clothing, towels, bags and children’s items.
Create initials for linen, gifts and home accessories.
Add the maker’s name, date and a personal message.
Build longer messages through the touchscreen text editor.
The large touchscreen presents sewing stitches, embroidery designs, lettering and machine settings through an intuitive visual interface.
Designs can be moved, combined, rotated, mirrored, resized and repositioned within the selected embroidery frame.
Built-in tutorials provide on-screen guidance for machine preparation and common functions.
The machine projects a visible guideline onto the fabric directly in front of the presser foot.
Reposition the laser to suit the seam allowance or stitch location and use it as a clear reference while sewing.
It improves alignment without requiring a permanent drawn line across the full length of the project.
The V-Sonic Pen communicates with the machine when touched against supported areas of the fabric.
In sewing mode, it can assist with needle placement, stitch width and the endpoint of a sewing line.
In embroidery mode, it helps position and angle compatible designs relative to fabric markings and project details.
The embroidery foot projects a light onto the project beneath the needle.
This shows the approximate needle-drop location before embroidery begins and provides a useful visual reference when positioning monograms and motifs.
Combine the marker with the V-Sonic Pen, hoop grid and trial-position function for greater placement confidence.
Utility, quilting, decorative, heirloom, sideways-feed and lettering options.
The VM5200 includes an extensive selection of stitches for garments, alterations, stretch sewing, appliqué, patchwork and decorative techniques.
Five sewing fonts create feed-through lettering, while My Custom Stitch allows original sewing patterns to be designed and saved.
Place the button into the automatic buttonhole foot and allow the machine to determine the required buttonhole length.
The complete buttonhole is sewn automatically in one continuous sequence, providing consistent sizing across a garment or home project.
Design an original sewing stitch by placing individual stitch points onto a grid.
Custom stitches can be adjusted, saved in memory and reused in future projects.
The included My Custom Stitch CD provides additional compatible creative content and resources.
My Custom Stitch creates feed-through sewing stitches. It does not convert artwork or photographs into filled embroidery designs.
Supported stitches can feed forwards, backwards and sideways, reducing the need to turn the entire project.
This is useful when working in awkward areas, repairing garments, creating wide decorative designs or sewing structured bags.
Stitch around compact repairs without repeatedly rotating the garment.
Reach structured corners and difficult areas more easily.
Create wider effects using movement beyond ordinary forward feeding.
Add stitches where turning the entire quilt or panel is inconvenient.
Brother’s Automatic Height Adjuster responds as fabric thickness changes beneath the presser foot.
It helps maintain suitable presser-foot pressure and consistent stitch formation when moving across quilt seams, bulky joins and uneven surfaces.
Manual presser-foot pressure adjustment remains available for specialist fabrics and techniques.
When pivot mode is active, the needle remains lowered in the fabric while the presser foot rises automatically.
Rotate or reposition the project with both hands, then resume sewing and allow the foot to lower.
Raise the presser foot using your knee while both hands remain on the quilt, garment or appliqué.
The knee lift is particularly valuable while aligning patchwork intersections, managing layered projects and positioning difficult seams.
The VM5200 cuts the upper and bobbin threads at suitable stopping points.
Compatible jump stitches between separate embroidery sections can also be trimmed automatically.
This reduces loose connecting threads and the amount of manual scissor work required after embroidery.
The fully automatic needle-threading system guides the upper thread through the needle eye using a direct machine control.
Automatic upper-thread tension provides a recommended starting setting for the selected sewing or embroidery function.
Upper and bobbin sensors stop the machine and display a warning when thread breaks, runs out or becomes low.
Insert the bobbin from above, follow the marked thread path and begin sewing without manually drawing the bobbin thread through the needle plate.
The separate bobbin-winding motor allows another bobbin to be prepared independently of the main sewing mechanism.
The large throat, electronic feed-dog control, knee lift, straight-stitch plate and included free-motion foot create a capable home quilting system.
Use the laser guide for piecing and straight-line quilting, then lower the feed dogs electronically for free-motion work.
Complete long sewing seams, chain piecing and large embroidery designs efficiently.
Electronic speed control allows the maximum sewing speed to be reduced for appliqué, curves, beginners and detailed work.
Efficient performance for sewing, quilting and large machine embroidery.
Bright LED lighting spreads across approximately 10 inches of the needle and sewing area.
Wide illumination improves visibility while piecing, quilting, threading, embroidering and working with dark fabrics.
Load compatible embroidery designs and sewing-stitch data from a supported USB flash drive.
A direct USB computer connection can also be used with compatible Brother software and supported machine updates.
A separate USB port supports a compatible mouse or additional USB device.
The VM5200 does not have built-in Wi-Fi and does not support wireless Design Database Transfer or Artspira transfer. Use USB media or the direct computer connection.
The Brother Innov-is Essence VM5200 is a premium domestic sewing, quilting and single-needle embroidery machine. It is not a commercial multi-needle embroidery machine.
Its maximum stitchable embroidery area is 300 × 200mm. Designs larger than this must be reduced, split or repositioned using suitable embroidery software and techniques.
The machine changes embroidery colours manually. It stops at each colour stage so the upper thread can be changed.
The VM5200 does not have Wi-Fi. Designs are transferred using USB media or the direct USB computer connection.
Good embroidery requires suitable stabiliser, quality embroidery thread, correct bobbin thread, an appropriate needle and secure hooping.
The VM5200 uses flat embroidery hoops. It is not designed to embroider finished structured caps in the same way as a commercial cap-frame machine.
The Sew Straight Laser Vision Guide is a visual alignment aid. It does not automatically steer the fabric.
Although capable of personalised products and smaller production runs, it remains a domestic machine rather than a commercial production system.
