The navy body is shaped with integrated finger grooves on both sides for a secure grip. It stays firm in the hand, making it a useful alternative for anyone who does not want to keep squeezing a retracting safety handle.

Four steps for controlled rotary cutting
Use a proper cutting mat, a fresh blade and only the pressure needed to finish the cut. The cover is manual, so closing it must become part of every cutting routine.
Prepare the surface
Lay the material flat on a self-healing cutting mat and remove pins, clips and hard fasteners from the blade path.
Expose the blade
Pull the sliding blade cover towards you only when the cutter is on the mat and ready to use.
Cut smoothly away
Keep the blade vertical, fingers behind the ruler edge and movement directed safely away from your body.
Close the cover
Cover the blade fully before setting down, carrying, changing or storing the cutter.
Open the cover, cut on a mat, then cover the edge
Pull the cover towards you to expose the blade, then close it fully when cutting is finished.
Press the cutter against the material on a proper cutting mat and guide it with controlled pressure.
Sharp blade safety: the cover helps protect the edge but does not make this cutter child-safe or injury-proof. Keep hands away from the cutting line, cut away from your body and cover the blade immediately after every cutting session.
Quick blade release with fewer small parts to manage
Instead of undoing a traditional nut and washer stack, the RTY-2C/NBL uses a red clasp on the back. Position the blade side down on a stable surface, slide the clasp to release the blade assembly, replace the blade, then return the clasp to its locked position.
The single-touch rear clasp releases the assembly with minimal loose parts.
Release the clasp, fit the new blade and push the clasp back up until the assembly is secured.
Always change the blade on a stable surface. OLFA specifically warns against releasing the blade assembly while the cutter is resting in the palm of your hand.

The blade assembly can be positioned so the cutter sits correctly beside a ruler in either hand. Confirm that the blade, cover and rear clasp are fully secure before every use.

What makes Quick-Change different?
A red clasp on the back releases and secures the blade assembly, reducing the number of loose parts that must be handled during a blade swap.
Does the blade retract automatically?
No. RTY-2C/NBL uses a manual sliding blade cover. Pull it towards you to expose the blade, then close it fully as soon as cutting is complete.
Can a left-handed person use it?
Yes. OLFA specifies this cutter for right- and left-handed users. Position the blade assembly correctly for the chosen hand and secure the rear clasp before use.
Which replacement blades fit?
Use OLFA RB45 standard blades or the compatible RB45H Endurance blade. Decorative 45mm wave and pinking blades are not specified for this model.
Is an Endurance blade included?
No. One standard RB45 blade is installed. The longer-life RB45H Endurance blade is an optional replacement sold separately.
Can it cut several fabric layers?
OLFA states that this 45mm cutter can cut up to eight layers of cotton fabric. Actual capacity depends on fabric thickness, weave, finish, blade condition and technique, so test the stack and never use excessive pressure.
Do I need a cutting mat?
Yes. Use a proper self-healing cutting mat to protect the work surface, support clean cutting and help preserve the blade edge.
