A long working shaft
Useful reach for basting, gathering and decorative wrapped stitches.
Bohin milliners, also called straw needles, have a long shaft, a small round eye and a sharp point. The eye is similar in width to the shaft, making them useful for bullion knots, wrapped stitches and basting.

Useful reach for basting, gathering and decorative wrapped stitches.
An eye close to the shaft width helps the needle pass through bullion wraps.
Suitable for stitches that pierce the fabric rather than following counted holes.

For bullion knots, form the wraps around the shaft, then ease the needle through while supporting the wraps. Match the eye and needle size to your thread; for basting, use the length to guide evenly spaced running stitches.
Match the needle eye to your thread and the shaft to your fabric. For delicate or unfamiliar materials, try the combination on a scrap first.
