The Brother Airflow 3000 is designed for sewists who want the speed and finish of an overlocker without manually guiding thread through long, complicated looper paths.
Insert the looper thread into the air-threading port, press the button and an electrically powered blast of air carries it through the internal tube and out through the looper.
Separate needle-threading levers help with the two needle threads, making a complete rethread or colour change much more approachable.
Once threaded, the machine trims, seams and finishes fabric edges in one fast operation.
The Airflow 3000 trims fabric and creates overlocked seams and edge finishes. It does not replace an ordinary sewing machine.
A sewing machine remains necessary for lockstitch construction, top stitching, zips, buttonholes and most detailed garment work.
The Airflow 3000 is not a coverstitch machine and does not create the twin-needle hem normally seen along the bottom of a T-shirt.
Place the upper or lower looper thread into its clearly marked port, close the threading cover and press the air-threading button.
A powered burst of air carries the thread through the internal looper tube, removing the need to guide it manually through each hidden threading point.
The loopers are threaded individually, giving you control over each thread colour and configuration.
Air threading handles the upper and lower loopers, while dedicated threading levers assist with the left and right needles.
This makes a full four-thread setup substantially easier than threading a traditional overlocker entirely by hand.

At speeds up to 1,300 stitches per minute, the Airflow 3000 can trim and finish fabric substantially faster than an ordinary sewing machine overcasting stitch.
Speed is controlled through the supplied electronic foot controller, allowing you to slow down for curves and seam intersections.
Slide the rolled-hem control to retract the stitch finger without changing the needle plate.
Adjust the thread tension, stitch length and differential feed to produce fine rolled edges on suitable fabrics.
Use regular overlocking thread or experiment with suitable decorative thread in the upper looper.
The Airflow 3000 normally trims the fabric edge immediately before the stitch is formed.
Move the knife-control lever when you want to sew an appropriate stitch without cutting the material.
This is useful for selected decorative techniques and projects where the fabric has already been cut accurately.
Disengaging the knife does not turn the machine into a coverstitch machine. The Airflow 3000 continues to form overlocker stitches.
Cutting width determines how much fabric remains inside the overlocked edge after trimming.
Adjust it to help the thread wrap the edge fully without curling excess fabric or leaving loose loops.
Stitch length controls how closely each stitch is placed along the seam.
Adjust the approximate finished overlock width to suit fabric weight and stitch configuration.
Select a shorter stitch for dense finishing or a longer stitch for bulkier materials.
Match the cutting width to the amount of thread being formed around the fabric edge.
Use short settings and suitable tension for fine decorative rolled edges.
Presser-foot pressure determines how firmly the material is held against the feed dogs.
Reduce the pressure for selected fine, lightweight or easily stretched fabrics and increase it when firmer control is required.

The Airflow 3000 will not begin sewing when the front cover or fabric cover is open.
It also prevents operation when the presser foot is raised.
An LED indicator alerts the user when one of these conditions needs attention.

Better visibility is especially useful with dark thread, dark fabrics, narrow seam allowances and rolled hems.

Air threading threads the two loopers. The two needles use separate assisted needle-threading mechanisms.
The Airflow 3000 does not automatically select thread tension. Each tension dial is adjusted manually for the selected stitch, fabric and thread.
The machine trims fabric during ordinary overlocking, but the upper knife can be disengaged for suitable techniques.
It does not create a conventional sewing-machine straight stitch, zigzag, buttonhole or coverstitch hem.
Air threading makes setup easier, but correct thread order, needle choice, tension, cutting width and differential-feed settings still affect stitch quality.
Always test the complete seam on a project offcut before sewing the finished garment.
